In early 1900s, the
media commonly used in the earlier days were pictures, models, charts maps
graphs, motion pictures and lantern slides it was originated when the
administrative organization in school used instructional media as school
museums. The collections of media made the materials for teachers to use in
their classroom
It was between late 1920s -1940s progressions
in media include sound recordings, radio broadcasts and motion pictures with
sound. The first person to introduce educational technology was radio
instruction pioneer, W. W. Charters in 1948.
Schools,
colleges, department of education and commercial stations provided radio
programming to schools, ultimately radio instruction in schools were restrained
when television was introduced. The technology of television, teaching machines
and programmed learning brought to attention in the 1950s, - 1960s. The
development of 242 television channels considered as one of the most innovative
effort for that era and was used for educational purposes; use of televised
lessons expanded over a six- state area. Before 1970s, educational technology was synonymous with audiovisual
communication and instruction.
Micro-computers
(1980s,) changed the field of
technology in education tremendously. International society of technology in
education (ISTE) an organization has
helped advance the use of technology in classrooms in US. It’s the 20th
century audiovisual education showed excess development during and after World
War II. It began with an emphasis on audiovisual communications media.
Gradually it became focused on the systematic development of teaching and
learning procedures which were based in behavioral psychology.
In 1980s schools of United States used computers
in classroom for instructional purposes ultimately the advancement of
educational technology over the decade’s results with 97% of schools having
internet connections by 2000.
